Key Takeaways
Kolkata, Jan 15 (NationPress) In response to directives from the Election Commission, the government of West Bengal has made the decision to transfer police officers who have held their positions for three years or longer. A state secretariat official stated on Thursday that an official notification regarding this matter is expected to be issued shortly.
This directive will affect those serving in their home districts or those who have remained in the same role for an extended duration. All senior police officials have already received this directive, as per an official source.
As outlined in the Election Commission's guidelines released on December 21, 2023, and December 23, 2008, police officers at the Sub-Inspector level who meet the specified criteria are required to be transferred.
Sources from the state government have indicated that senior IPS officers are tasked with supervising the transfer process of officers within their respective zones.
It has been noted that the ADG and IGP of South Bengal will manage the Bidhannagar, Barrackpore, and Howrah Police Commissionerates alongside their existing responsibilities.
The ADG and IGP of the Western Zone will oversee the Asansol-Durgapur and Chandannagar Police Commissionerates, in addition to their designated areas. The IGP of North Bengal will supervise the Siliguri Police Commissionerate along with their own jurisdiction.
The directive further emphasizes the necessity of adhering to the Election Commission's instructions meticulously. Should any clarifications or explanations be required, individuals are advised to reach out to the ADG and IGP (Legal), West Bengal, or the ADG and IGP (Law and Order) without delay.
Once all transfer orders have been issued, a report detailing the actions taken must be submitted to the Police Directorate and relevant higher authorities by January 24.
Meanwhile, the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Bengal's electoral rolls is nearing completion. Amidst this activity, the state government has initiated the transfer of police officers in line with the directives of the Election Commission.
