Bhagalpur Entrepreneur Unveils ‘Millet Malpua’ for Holi Under PMFME Initiative
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bhagalpur, March 2 (NationPress) During festive occasions in India, traditional sweets are a cherished part of celebrations, whether it’s Holi, Diwali, or other festivities. This year, however, the star of the season is the innovative ‘Millet Malpua’.
In the Bhagalpur district of Bihar, this distinctive treat has quickly gained popularity, with many locals eagerly queuing up to place their orders for Holi.
What’s fascinating is that this delightful dessert was crafted by a local woman entrepreneur, Priyanka, who ventured into the millet industry under the PMFME (PM Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises Scheme). Her creation of ‘Millet Malpua’ is a response to the often adulterated food supply chains during festive times, aiming to provide healthier alternatives.
Priyanka shared her entrepreneurial story with IANS, revealing that she kickstarted her business with a loan of Rs 1.17 lakh through the PMFME initiative. Today, she has rightfully earned the title of the ‘millet lady’ in Bhagalpur.
She expressed her appreciation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for supporting women entrepreneurs and stated that women feel empowered and liberated due to the women-centric programs introduced under his administration.
Currently, Priyanka produces around 60 different millet-based products, catering to various meal times throughout the day. Among her popular offerings are millet khichdi, millet kheer, millet halwa, and millet idlis, all of which have garnered significant demand in local markets.
Notably, her Malpua is made using jowar, bajra, ragi, and a mix of multi-millets, making it suitable even for those managing diabetes.
The PMFME scheme, launched on June 29, 2020, is a central government initiative aimed at enhancing and formalizing micro food enterprises across India. Part of the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan, it aligns with the Vocal for Local vision, providing vital financial, technical, and business support to entrepreneurs for establishing new units or upgrading existing ones.
