Bhopal, Dec 31 (NationPress) Bhedaghat, often dubbed the 'grand canyon of India', is a stunning tourist hotspot celebrated for its stone artistry, particularly in marble sculpting. Local artisans craft detailed deities and various sculptures from the soft marble sourced from the banks of the Narmada River.

The sculptors skillfully turn marble into intricate deities and distinctive sculptures, offering vital livelihood opportunities for many families in the area. The marble and stone carving sector has flourished as a sustainable enterprise, contributing significantly to the income of numerous locals.

In discussions with IANS, several marble sculptors highlighted that camps organized under the PM Vishwakarma Yojana have equipped aspiring craftsmen and sculptors with necessary skills, thus fostering growth in this field. Many expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for initiating this program.

Sculptor Sheikh Ahfaz shared with IANS the recognition their handcrafted items have received. Prime Minister Narendra Modi notably praised their work at an event at Yashobhoomi, where they presented him with special gifts.

Sheikh Ahfaz noted that a variety of marble products are crafted in this region.

“Our appreciation goes to Prime Minister Modi for elevating the significance of our craft. He focused on grassroots artisans, something no previous Prime Minister has done,” he remarked.

Sculptor Aaron Khan, who has been in the business for 40 years, confirmed that a wide range of sculptures are crafted from marble, all painstakingly handmade by local artisans.

Notably, Bhedaghat is renowned for its breathtaking marble cliffs, where limestone formations soar up to 30 meters above the river.

The unique marble from the Bhedaghat area is available in various hues such as white, grey, pink, and bluish-grey, adding to the allure of the marble cliffs.
