Bengaluru, April 3 (NationPress) In a disturbing incident, a young woman migrant worker from Bihar was abducted and sexually assaulted while seeking food with her brother in the early hours of Thursday near a railway station in Bengaluru.

The case was reported to the Mahadevapura police station.

Local residents, who hurried to the scene upon hearing the victim's cries, were able to capture one of the assailants and handed him over to the authorities after giving him a beating. Following interrogation of the captured suspect, another perpetrator was also arrested. One of the suspects has been identified as Ashif.

The police have filed charges under various sections of the Bharatiya Nayay Sanhita, including 115 (2), 126 (2), 351 (2), 351 (3), 352, 64, and 3 (5). The assault occurred between 1:20 a.m. and 1:45 a.m.

As per police reports, the 19-year-old victim is from the Banka district in Bihar. Her family had traveled to Kattappan village in Kerala a month prior to work in the cardamom fields. Once the season ended, the family decided to return to their home in Bihar. On April 1, they sought guidance from individuals at the Ernakular railway station in Kerala about how to reach Bihar, where they were directed to Bengaluru.

The family reached out to one of the victim's brothers residing in Bengaluru, who instructed them to disembark at the K.R. Puram Railway station in the city. Following this advice, the family boarded a train in Kerala for Bengaluru on April 1 at 9 a.m. The train arrived at K.R. Puram station at 1:13 a.m., where the family got off.

At approximately 1:20 a.m., the victim and her brother were walking towards Mahadevapura in search of food while the rest of the family remained at the railway station. Around 1:30 a.m., the two assailants confronted them and attacked the victim's brother.

One of the attackers forcibly restrained the brother, while the second dragged the victim to a secluded area and sexually assaulted her. The victim reported to the police that even as the assailant attempted to silence her, she managed to scream for help.

Upon hearing her cries, nearby residents rushed to the location. Seeing the crowd approaching, the two assailants attempted to flee, but the public pursued them, caught one of the rapists, and brought him to the police station.
