Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Patna, Jan 9 (NationPress) The Bihar Police unveiled its annual report card for 2025 on Friday, highlighting a noteworthy reduction in serious crimes statewide.
As indicated by Director General of Police (DGP) Vinay Kumar, incidents of murder, robbery, riots, and bank heists have all seen a steep decline compared to the previous year, showcasing the effects of enhanced policing and strategic enforcement.
The statistics reveal that murder cases fell by 8.3%, robberies decreased by 26.9%, and riot-related events dropped by 21.5% in 2025.
One of the most remarkable accomplishments cited by the DGP was an 80% reduction in bank robbery incidents, which signifies advancements in surveillance and preemptive policing.
“In 2025, the Bihar Police apprehended a total of 361,364 suspects in various criminal activities. In a significant operation against illegal arms manufacturing and trafficking, authorities seized 4,963 illegal firearms and 30,133 cartridges. Furthermore, 74 mini gun factories — known to be centers for illegal weapon production — were dismantled throughout the state,” Kumar stated during a press briefing in Patna.
The DGP noted that the Special Task Force (STF) achieved a remarkable operational boost in 2025, with STF encounters rising from eight the previous year to 29.
These operations culminated in the arrest of 1,682 infamous criminals and a record 134 Naxalites.
During STF missions, police confiscated 70 standard weapons and 15,552 live cartridges, significantly diminishing the operational strength of criminal and extremist factions, he added.
Kumar mentioned that ongoing anti-Naxalite efforts have led to a significant reduction in Naxalite activities throughout Bihar.
Under increasing pressure from law enforcement, six Naxalites surrendered, including five wanted extremists and one squad member. Among those who surrendered were Ravan Koda and Akhilesh Singh Bhokta, indicating a further decline of the Naxal movement in the region.
DGP Kumar also emphasized the police's commitment to securing convictions. Between January and November 2025, courts convicted 143,545 criminals. Among these, four individuals received the death penalty, while 1,097 were sentenced to life imprisonment.
Convictions were also achieved against 518 defendants in serious cases, including rape and those under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, reflecting enhanced case preparation and follow-up by investigative bodies.
DGP Vinay Kumar credited the positive crime statistics to coordinated policing efforts, intelligence-driven operations, strengthened STF initiatives, and focused prosecution strategies, asserting that the Bihar Police will uphold its zero-tolerance policy towards crime and extremism.
