Bihar Home Department Reports Drop in Crime Rates

Patna, Dec 21 (NationPress) The Bihar Police, which operates under the Home Department, reported on Friday a notable decrease in crime rates across the state for 2024.

Arvind Kumar Chaudhary, Principal Secretary of the Home Department, shared important statistics indicating substantial declines in serious crimes: dacoity dropped by 15.36 percent, theft decreased by 5.93 percent, and riots fell by 15.82 percent.

Chaudhary mentioned that the Bihar Police confiscated 92 regular weapons, 4861 illegal weapons, 165 crude bombs, 22622 live cartridges, and 604 detonators. Additionally, the Bihar Police dismantled 83 mini gun factories by November 30 of this year.

Furthermore, Chaudhary reported that the Bihar Police arrested a total of 300,526 individuals in connection with various crimes. He commended the police and the Special Task Force (STF) for their dedication in combating criminal activities, particularly in relation to Naxalism.

“Naxal activities in Bihar, which once affected 10 districts, have now been restricted to eight districts such as Gaya, Aurangabad, Nawada, Rohtas, Kaimur, Jamui, Munger, and Lakhisarai. These activities are now primarily limited to forest areas in Bihar and the adjacent state of Jharkhand,” stated Chaudhary.

From January to November 30 of this year, the Bihar Police apprehended 120 Naxal operatives and confiscated 24 weapons, 246 live cartridges, 134 kg of explosives, 554 detonators, and 146 mines/cane bombs.

The STF conducted five confrontations with criminals, with four of those having bounties on their heads. The STF has also detained 53 Naxal operatives and arrested 787 notorious criminals in 2024.

In 2024, the Bihar Police made remarkable progress in strengthening cybercrime prevention and enforcement measures.

A total of 44 cyber police stations are now operational in Bihar, all overseen by officers of DSP rank, to tackle the escalating challenges posed by cybercrime.

According to Principal Secretary Arvind Kumar Chaudhary, the cyber cell reported 5,187 cases across various police stations until October 31, resulting in the apprehension of 571 individuals.

The Economic Offence Unit (EOU) operates a call center for the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (1930), which has received the highest volume of calls compared to other states. The EOU ranks fifth nationwide in freezing funds related to reported cyber fraud cases.

The unit has blocked 13,403 mobile numbers and 3,804 IMEI numbers following reports of stolen phones.

The EOU logged 419 cases for provocative, objectionable, and misleading posts on social media, successfully resolving 319 cases.

Moreover, the EOU filed 26 FIRs under the Disproportionate Assets Act and recommended the attachment of assets valued at Rs 339.3952 crore under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) to the Enforcement Directorate.

The Bihar Police have also confiscated a total of 13024 kg of ganja, 303.045 kg of charas, 19.528 kg of heroin/smack/brown sugar, 10.257 kg of opium, 500.67 kg of Doda, 63071 injections, 108398 bottles of codeine-based syrup, and 50321 pieces of tablets.

A total of 1534 individuals were charged under the NDPS act, with 932 cases registered against them, and 1333 individuals have been arrested in this regard.
