Is This Mob Rule? BJP Reacts to 'Assault' on NCW Member in Hooghly, Bengal
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, Jan 13 (NationPress) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has condemned the West Bengal government and the Trinamool Congress regarding the alleged attack on a member of the National Commission for Women (NCW) who is investigating the sexual assault of a minor girl in Uttarpara, located in the Hooghly district.
In a post on social media, BJP's Information Technology Cell chief, Amit Malviya, highlighted an incident in which individuals purportedly linked to the ruling Trinamool Congress attempted to physically intimidate NCW member, Dr. Archana Majumdar. She is spearheading inquiries into rape and rape-murder cases in the state, including the recent incident involving a minor.
Malviya asserted that the level of lawlessness in West Bengal has surpassed all limits. In his social media commentary, he indicated that such acts of intimidation against investigating officials are not isolated events. He also included a video of the occurrence on his X profile.
“This was intimidation. It was a message intended to silence those who dare to probe into crimes that the Mamata Banerjee administration wishes to conceal. The targeting of a constitutional authority fulfilling her duties in this way reveals the desperation and fear of the TMC,” Malviya stated in his post.
“For how much longer will Bengal endure this despicable party? For how much longer will criminals be shielded while investigators face threats? This is not governance; this is mob rule,” he emphasized.
In another social media update, Malviya addressed the arrest of a Trinamool Congress associate, Bullet Khan, linked to the recent suicide of a BLO in Bengal’s Murshidabad district.
Khan allegedly failed to repay a loan of Rs 20 lakh to the deceased BLO, Hamidul Islam, leading to his mental distress.
Initially, the leadership of Trinamool in Murshidabad attributed the death to election-related pressures. They even organized protests outside the office of West Bengal's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) in Kolkata. However, further investigations led authorities to arrest the Trinamool worker on Monday.
Commenting on the situation, Malviya remarked that Khan's arrest underscores how Mamata Banerjee and her party have been caught disseminating misinformation.
“This is how Mamata Banerjee and the TMC manipulate the truth and distort facts to fit their political narrative,” he concluded.
