BJP Criticizes Delhi Government for Ignoring Achievements of Chess Champion Tania Sachdev

New Delhi, Dec 23 (NationPress) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday launched a sharp attack on the Delhi government regarding its ‘neglect and apathy’ towards the notable accomplishments of Chess champion Tania Sachdev, who has made her mark on various international platforms.

Tania, hailing from Delhi and recognized for her numerous accolades for the nation, took to social media on Monday to voice her distress over the lack of acknowledgment and recognition from the city government, despite representing the country at the Olympiads in 2022 and again in 2024.

Delhi IT cell chief Amit Malviya and General Secretary BL Santosh criticized the Atishi-led AAP administration for failing to commend or celebrate the achievements of this local chess talent.

“Most of the time of AAP leaders is consumed in welcoming their members out of Tihar jail. They seem to have no time for achievers,” remarked BL Santosh in a pointed comment.

Malviya highlighted that this incident is not isolated, as numerous athletes have raised similar grievances in the past, yet the AAP government has remained indifferent.

In a post on X, he stated, “Arvind Kejriwal has not supported our sportspeople, which is a disappointing testament to his time as Chief Minister. Many athletes, including wrestlers and boxers, have voiced similar complaints.

“This is particularly concerning as Delhi is a resource-rich state with modern infrastructure and considerable backing from the central government. However, what is lacking is the genuine commitment to serve the citizens. It is time to remove AAP from power,” he added.

The BJP's strong criticism of AAP’s leadership came after Tania Sachdev shared her thoughts on the government’s unresponsive stance towards award-winning athletes.

Tania expressed on X, “Having represented India since 2008, it is disheartening to see the absence of recognition from the Delhi government for achievements in chess. States that support and celebrate their champions directly inspire excellence and nurture talent.”

She further expressed hope that Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal would recognize the importance of supporting their chess athletes.

“Unfortunately, Delhi has not yet taken this step. In the 2022 Chess Olympiad, I returned with a historic team bronze and an individual medal. Two years later, in 2024, we achieved the historic Chess Olympic gold, yet there has been no acknowledgment or recognition from the state government to date,” she concluded.
