New Delhi, Feb 23 (NationPress) The Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Municipal Corporation, Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh, stated on Sunday that despite holding power in both the Delhi government and the civic body, AAP has been unsuccessful in regularizing contract employees within the urban local body.

In response to AAP’s recent announcement regarding plans to regularize 12,000 contract employees in the MCD, Singh claimed that former Chief Minister Atishi and AAP leaders have betrayed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi's employees.

“Even after being ousted from power in the Delhi Assembly, Atishi is attempting to mislead employees regarding service regularization,” he asserted.

Singh noted that a similar announcement was made a few months ago, yet no tangible actions have been taken for contract employees in the civic body.

On Sunday, Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh revealed that Atishi announced a preamble proposal to regularize 12,000 employees, which is set to be discussed at the corporation’s general house meeting on February 25.

“This is merely a ruse, especially for sanitation workers, since obtaining approval from the Municipal Commissioner and the Finance Department is crucial before drafting a preamble for employee regularization, and no such approval has been sought as of February 23,” he noted.

He further emphasized that although Atishi has served as a minister and chief minister in the Delhi government and is familiar with the processes, she is fabricating a false narrative and making empty promises to contract workers.

Raja Iqbal Singh pointed out that the CAG report to be presented in the Assembly on February 25 will expose AAP leaders, raising questions about AAP’s majority in the municipal House. To divert attention from this, AAP leaders are engaging in such gimmicks,” he said.

Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor remarked that AAP leaders are not taking the issue of regularizing municipal employees seriously.

This is evident from the fact that in 2022, the three municipal corporations passed a preamble proposal to regularize approximately 7,200 temporary employees with all necessary administrative approvals.

However, following AAP’s majority win in the 2022 municipal elections, the AAP government has only regularized around 3,400 employees over the past two years, while the remaining 3,800 files have been stalled due to objections, he disclosed.

BJP leaders asserted that AAP is losing its majority in the municipal corporation, and when the BJP regains power, it will regularize all temporary employees while adhering to proper administrative procedures.
