Kolkata, Aug 2 (NationPress) The West Bengal Leader of the Opposition and seasoned BJP figure, Suvendu Adhikari, claimed on Saturday that a brutal assault was perpetrated against a local BJP leader by a group of illegal Rohingya infiltrators on the streets of Kolkata.
He shared a video on his X account featuring the injured BJP leader, who was visibly marked by blood and severe wounds on his face, recounting the harrowing incident.
Earlier on Saturday, LoP Adhikari released a statement on his official X account, asserting that Debashish Biswas, a BJP worker residing in the Behal (East) constituency of Kolkata, was attacked by illegal Rohingya individuals on Friday.
"Yesterday, he witnessed a group of Rohingya Muslims openly using marijuana in front of his home and raised his voice against it. Shortly thereafter, one assailant struck Debashish with a knife and scissors, leaving him with grave injuries, including deep lacerations on his face and other parts of his body," he stated in his announcement.
The Leader of the Opposition alleged that these unauthorized Rohingya infiltrators are now brazenly violating laws in public spaces, resorting to life-threatening violence against those who challenge them.
He accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of harboring and shielding these individuals for her political advantage, claiming that law enforcement had removed the primary suspect "for security reasons."
According to the Leader of the Opposition, such anti-social behavior has become prevalent in the heart of Kolkata, highlighting a breakdown of law and order in the state.
LoP Adhikari criticized the state police, asserting that their primary role has devolved into serving the interests of Trinamool Congress leaders, big and small.
"Furthermore, for a specific community, the law appears to be non-existent in the state; the police lack the authority to act against them as they form Mamata Banerjee's voter base. They can blatantly disregard the law in public spaces, and any protest against their actions is met with violent retaliation. These individuals are nurtured and protected by Mamata Banerjee herself for political gain," the BJP leader remarked.
As of the filing of this report, there had been no response from the police or the ruling Trinamool Congress regarding the incident.
