Why Are Delhi BJP Workers Demanding an Apology from Rahul Gandhi?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 21 (NationPress) In a fervent demonstration, BJP supporters on Saturday breached barricades during a significant protest outside the Congress headquarters in Delhi, calling for an apology from Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi over the "shameful" actions displayed by Youth Congress members at the AI Summit the previous day.
Under the leadership of Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva, protesters chanted slogans against Rahul Gandhi and held signs that read “Anti-national Rahul Gandhi, apologise”, “Traitors”, and “No tolerance for disrespecting the nation”.
Sachdeva stated: “The operational methods of Rahul Gandhi and the Congress are highly regrettable. Utilizing an international platform -- the India AI Impact Summit -- as a stage for political dissent is unacceptable.”
He emphasized that the disruption at the summit, intended to showcase India’s technological advancements and leadership on a global scale, was not only inappropriate but also contrary to the national interest.
In a message shared on social media, Sachdeva remarked, "Today, alongside BJP leaders and supporters, a protest was conducted at the Congress headquarters against actions by Congress workers aimed at tarnishing India’s reputation on the world stage."
“Disagreements are a natural aspect of democracy, but any effort to undermine India’s standing internationally is intolerable. Rahul Gandhi and the Congress Party owe the nation an apology for such behavior,” he added.
Sachdeva accused Rahul Gandhi of echoing the sentiments of anti-India factions while abroad and engaging in activities harmful to the country’s interests when in India.
“The protest at the AI Summit indicates that Rahul Gandhi and the Congress are aligning with foreign interests. Their actions represent a betrayal of our national interests,” he asserted.
Sachdeva led the march from the Man Singh Road roundabout to the Congress headquarters located at 24, Akbar Road, condemning what he referred to as hooliganism exhibited by Youth Congress members at the summit.
Delhi BJP Media Head Praveen Shankar Kapoor stated, “Today, countless BJP workers have gathered here voluntarily, and the crowd numbers in the thousands.”
“Despite traffic disruptions, the enthusiasm of the people of Delhi reflects the importance of hosting such a major summit in the country. It is projected to yield economic benefits worth crores and create thousands of job opportunities. Nevertheless, Rahul Gandhi expressed his frustration during the summit through a protest driven by political motives. The nation will not forget such actions,” he concluded.
