New Delhi, June 12 (NationPress) Congress leader Nana Patole sparked a new controversy on Thursday by ridiculing Operation Sindoor and equating it to a children’s video game, drawing criticism not only from the BJP but from various political factions as well.
The former Maharashtra Congress chief diverged from his party's official stance, as his derision of the nation's brave soldiers undermines the integrity of the armed forces and the significant operation conducted on May 6-7 to target terrorist bases in Pakistan.
In response to Patole's contentious comments, Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule strongly condemned the remarks, asserting that Congress leaders have a history of disrespecting the armed forces. He further stated that this instance reinforces the narrative of 'Congress ka haath, Pakistan ke saath' (Congress is colluding with Pakistan).
“Does Congress believe that our soldiers’ valor, the decisive actions against terrorism, and the relentless fight to safeguard Mother India are mere games? Congress has consistently displayed a narrow-minded approach, even questioning the validity of surgical strikes. But today, the nation is aware. The citizens can see who stands with our heroes and who aligns with Pakistan! India will not forgive this anti-national mindset. Your intellect is tarnished,” he added on X, denouncing the offensive comments.
The BJP's Maharashtra unit also took to X to challenge Patole and the Congress, remarking that earlier governments exchanged friendly letters with Pakistan while the Modi administration is teaching them the language of 'BrahMos'.
Other political entities, including NDA allies, were similarly critical of Patole for diminishing the heroism of the armed forces. Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) leader Malook Nagar remarked, “Nana Patole is replicating the actions of the Uttar Pradesh Congress president, who previously derided the Rafale jet by calling it a toy and even tied lemon and green chilies to it. Yet, it was that very Rafale that enabled us to strike Pakistan. Patole’s statements are absurd.”
JD(U) leader Neeraj Kumar also criticized the Congress leader, emphasizing that our Army has taken action against those responsible in Pakistan, while an all-party delegation conveyed this message globally. However, the Congress party continues to overlook these facts for its convenience.
“They are undermining the courage and bravery of our security forces. The nation will not tolerate this,” he asserted.
The former Maharashtra Congress chief found himself under scrutiny for his remarks, stating, “The External Affairs Minister's statement indicated the specific locations in Pakistan we intended to target. Subsequently, they relocated their personnel from those sites. This implies it was akin to a game that children play on computers. India had informed Pakistan beforehand of the areas we were going to strike.”
