Key Takeaways
Birbhum (West Bengal), April 8 (NationPress) BJP candidate Jagannath Chattopadhyay expressed on Wednesday that the current Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal is set to "face a significant defeat" in the forthcoming two-phase Assembly elections on April 23 and 29.
Chattopadhyay is running for election in the Suri Assembly constituency located within Birbhum district.
Preparations are in full effect ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's scheduled visit to the district on April 9 to bolster support for the state elections.
He stated, "Tomorrow, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be here in Birbhum. A large number of BJP supporters will participate in this monumental public gathering. I am confident that the residents of Birbhum will heed Prime Minister Modi's call to vote for BJP candidates."
Furthermore, he remarked that the appearances of West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee, alongside party MP Abhishek Banerjee, in the district for their campaign signify the "essence" of India’s democratic fabric.
"The beauty of Indian democracy allows individuals like the Prime Minister to campaign for the BJP, while Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee are equally free to advocate for their party (Trinamool Congress)," Chattopadhyay shared with IANS.
However, he criticized both Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee, claiming they have been "rejected by the people of West Bengal."
"I doubt their campaign efforts will resonate in Birbhum as the Trinamool Congress is poised for a significant loss in this election," he asserted confidently.
Chattopadhyay expressed optimism regarding the BJP's triumph in the upcoming elections, stating, "This time, we will capture the majority of seats in Birbhum."
Moreover, a member of the BJP's state committee in West Bengal mentioned that according to the current schedule, the Prime Minister is expected to lead three major rallies in Asansol, Suri, and Haldia sequentially on April 9.
Previously, on April 5, Prime Minister Modi launched his campaign in the election-bound state with a large rally in Cooch Behar town, Cooch Behar district.
