New Delhi, March 25 (NationPress) In light of the serious allegations regarding the removal of Hindu and Hindi-speaking voters from the electoral rolls of West Bengal, BJP General Secretary Tarun Chugh has launched a fierce critique of the TMC government, comparing Mamata Banerjee to a “modern-day Jinnah.”
The uproar began when Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, while addressing the West Bengal Assembly, asserted that Hindu voters' names were being systematically erased from the state's voter list. He called for the Election Commission to intervene and take action against the Block Development Officer (BDO) from Krishnanagar specifically. Adhikari's accusations ignited a political tempest, with the BJP intensifying its offensive while the TMC dismissed the claims.
In an interview with IANS, Tarun Chugh remarked that Mamata Banerjee’s conduct mirrors that of Mohammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan.
“The actions of Mamata Banerjee today are similar to that of a modern-day Jinnah. In Bengal, there is no genuine government; instead, there is an anti-national agenda reminiscent of the Muslim League at play. This administration operates under the banner of the Muslim League, and its officials, under Mamata Banerjee’s guidance, are intentionally purging the voter rolls of Hindus while ensuring that the votes of Rohingyas and Bangladeshis are included,” Chugh stated.
Chugh further accused the Mamata government of systematically eliminating Hindu voters, particularly in the border areas of Bengal, to create 'space for votes' from illegal immigrants, including those from Bangladesh.
On the other hand, TMC leader Jaiprakash Majumdar dismissed the allegations made by Suvendu Adhikari, accusing the BJP of fabricating stories.
He claimed that the BJP was itself involved in importing voters from other states, such as Haryana, and adding them to the West Bengal electoral list. According to Majumdar, these accusations are part of a larger strategy by the BJP to undermine the reputation of the TMC-led government.
