Jaipur, Feb 1 (NationPress) Congress National General Secretary and former Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Sachin Pilot, criticized the Union Budget outlined by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in Parliament, labeling it as directionless, perplexing, and profoundly unsatisfactory for the average citizen.

Pilot pointed out that despite the Union government recording capital expenditure savings of nearly Rs 1 lakh crore annually over the last three years, its efforts to gain public approval through increased allocations merely on paper are transparent.

He further articulated that the Central government has failed to utilize close to Rs 33,000 crore intended for direct public benefit schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Gramin, and the Skill Development Scheme, indicating a lack of priority for the rural poor.

Moreover, approximately Rs 50,000 crore went unspent under the Jal Jeevan Mission due to the Centre's inability to transfer funds to the states.

Pilot noted that even though the Centre has retained the states' share in central taxes at 41 percent, it has neglected the issue of states covering nearly 40 percent of the costs associated with the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS).

He demanded an increase in the states' share to 45 percent.

Describing the budget as extremely disheartening for Rajasthan, Pilot highlighted the lack of allocation in the Water Resources Ministry's budget for the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project, the omission of Rajasthan from all seven proposed high-speed rail corridors, and the absence of provisions for previously sanctioned railway lines, clearly indicating that the BJP government shows no concern for the state's residents.

Additionally, he remarked that the budget offers no relief to farmers and urged the BJP-led state government to release a white paper on unemployment.

Pilot cautioned that this budget will likely exacerbate unemployment and force educated and highly skilled youth into low-paying jobs.

Point of View

Sachin Pilot's criticism of the Union Budget raises significant concerns about the government's priorities. The disconnect between budget allocations and the needs of the populace, especially in rural areas, calls for an urgent reevaluation of fiscal strategies. This narrative underscores the necessity for transparency and accountability in governance.
