Kolkata, Nov 14 (NationPress) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has allegedly taken measures to safeguard the actual perpetrators in the R.G. Kar rape and murder case, according to the victim's mother, who spoke before a trial court in Kolkata on Friday.
"The CBI is claimed to be India's premier investigative agency. However, they have acted in a manner that seems protective of the actual offenders in this case. The CBI's investigating officer has failed to respond to our calls, and a supplementary chargesheet has not yet been filed," she expressed.
The victim's parents also requested to provide a confidential statement before a judicial magistrate regarding the matter.
Nonetheless, the CBI's counsel opposed this request.
On Friday, the CBI delivered its seventh status report on the investigation's progress, informing the court that 11 new individuals have been interrogated.
The same trial court had previously identified Sanjay Roy, a former civic volunteer with the Kolkata Police, as the sole convict in the sexual assault and murder of a junior doctor last August, sentencing him to life imprisonment.
Currently, the CBI is delving into the notion of a "larger conspiracy" related to the crime.
The victim's parents have consistently accused the central investigative agency of a lackadaisical approach during the second phase of the investigation.
However, this marks the first instance where the victim's mother has directly blamed the CBI for allegedly protecting the main culprits in the case.
A female CBI officer, present at the court, appeared visibly moved by the emotional reaction of the victim's mother on Friday.
After the hearing, the CBI officer exited the courtroom with tears in her eyes, stating to the media, "I am also a mother," in a choked voice.
