Chandra Disputes Kejriwal's Allegations of Voter List Deletion

New Delhi, Dec 24 (NationPress) A day after the national convener of AAP, Arvind Kejriwal, raised concerns about the removal of voters from the electoral rolls in advance of the Delhi Assembly elections, his assertions faced a setback when a female voter publicly refuted his claims.

Chandra, a female voter from Delhi’s Kidwai Nagar constituency, stated unequivocally that she has consistently exercised her right to vote each year, contradicting Kejriwal's statements.

In an exclusive interview with IANS, she expressed, "I have never had my vote canceled. I always cast my vote. I am unsure why they erroneously claimed that my name had been removed from the list. I possess my voter ID card; there is no need for a new one. This could be a misunderstanding on Kejriwal's part as I have participated in every voting event."

Her husband Raghu also defended his wife's voting status against Kejriwal's allegations, stating, "It is possible that he (Arvind Kejriwal) mistakenly mentioned another individual's name and referred to us. Our vote has not been canceled."

During the launch of the Mahila Samman Yojana, the former Chief Minister of Delhi alleged that Chandra’s name was removed from the electoral rolls, allegedly as part of a BJP conspiracy, and promised to reinstate her name.

Kejriwal visited the constituency on Monday to initiate the registration process for the 'Mahila Samman Yojana', which includes a commitment of Rs 2,100 monthly financial support for women in the city if his party is re-elected.

While naming Chandra as a 'victim' of this alleged voter deletion initiative by the BJP, he asserted that his party would ensure that citizens are not deprived of their fundamental voting rights.

Kejriwal shared a video of the registration initiative, claiming that this 'conspiracy' by the BJP would hinder the ability of women in the city to receive the promised Rs 2,100 under the Mahila Samman Yojana.

On X, he posted, "When we commenced the registration for 'Mahila Samman Yojana', a sister informed me that someone had gotten her vote canceled. We will ensure her vote is restored. However, I urge all mothers and sisters in Delhi to verify their voting status. It is crucial to have your name on the voter list to receive Rs 2,100 monthly."

As the city gears up for elections, tensions are escalating between AAP and BJP for a highly competitive electoral showdown. The BJP is attempting to challenge the AAP's governance regarding various issues, while AAP has accused BJP of orchestrating a large-scale voter deletion effort aimed at undermining its voter base.

AAP has alleged that the BJP is pushing for the removal of numerous voters, predominantly its supporters, from the electoral rolls and has submitted applications to the Election Commission for such removals.

“In the Shahdara area, the BJP has requested the removal of over 11,000 voters. Upon verification, we found that 500 of these voters still reside in that locality,” Kejriwal stated in a recent public address.
