New Delhi, June 2 (NationPress) Union Minister Chirag Paswan has indicated his intention to run in the forthcoming Bihar Assembly elections, expressing that while he is currently engaged in national politics, his heart and political mission have always been deeply connected to Bihar.

During a brief visit to Chhattisgarh, Paswan told reporters, "I don’t envision myself remaining in central politics for an extended period. My entrance into politics was motivated by Bihar and its people. I aspire to further my vision of ‘Bihar First, Bihari First’.”

“Having secured my third term as a Member of Parliament, I have come to realize that being in Delhi hampers my ability to work directly for Bihar. I have shared my thoughts with the party, and they will assess whether my candidacy for the Assembly elections would be advantageous for the organization,” he remarked.

Paswan underscored that his interest in the state elections stems from a commitment to fostering development and ensuring stronger representation for Bihar.

“Occasionally, when national leaders participate in state elections, it can significantly benefit the party's growth. If my involvement aids the alliance and bolsters the NDA's standing in Bihar, I will run,” he noted.

Nonetheless, Chirag Paswan clarified that he is not pursuing the Chief Minister's position. “There is no opening for the Chief Minister’s role in Bihar. Nitish Kumar will continue as the Chief Minister,” he asserted, reaffirming the NDA's unity within the state.

Although Paswan has never contested an Assembly election, his increasing participation in state affairs has led to speculation regarding a transition from national to state politics.

The Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) is part of the NDA in Bihar, alongside parties led by Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi and former Union Minister Upendra Kushwaha.

The 243-member Bihar Assembly is poised for a competitive showdown this year, and Chirag’s potential candidacy could reshape alliances within the NDA and the broader electoral landscape.

During his visit to Chhattisgarh, Paswan also discussed plans to expand his party’s influence there. “In the days ahead, I will be visiting Chhattisgarh often. We are dedicated to strengthening our organization and gradually extending the party's reach in the state,” he stated.

Point of View

It is imperative to acknowledge Chirag Paswan's evolving role within Bihar's political framework. His intention to contest the Assembly elections reflects a growing trend where national leaders engage in local governance, potentially enhancing representation and development in the state.
