Delhi Government Bans LPG Cylinder Sales from Godowns; Violators Face Penalties
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 5 (NationPress) In an effort to enhance the transparency and efficiency of the LPG distribution framework, the Delhi government has enacted a total prohibition on the sale of cylinders directly from godowns, as stated by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday.
She emphasized that the Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have issued explicit directives to all distributors, indicating that such sales are illegal and will lead to stringent penalties.
Additionally, the government has substantially increased the availability of 5-kg LPG cylinders throughout the city to enhance consumer access.
These smaller cylinders are now readily available for purchase from gas agencies by presenting a valid ID, eliminating the need for address verification.
To better support migrant workers, 11 dedicated help desks have been established at selected HPCL outlets, providing information regarding nearby LPG distributors.
Chief Minister Gupta assured that the supply is under close surveillance to prevent any disruptions and to ensure strict adherence to the regulations.
Residents are advised to refrain from visiting gas agencies or storage facilities and to avoid congregating, as all ordered cylinders are being delivered directly to homes within the specified timeframe.
As of April 4, Delhi recorded a total of 114,679 LPG bookings, while 131,335 cylinders were delivered by OMCs.
The fact that deliveries have surpassed bookings illustrates that existing demand is being adequately addressed and the system is operating effectively. Currently, the average delivery duration for domestic LPG cylinders is 4.24 days, ensuring a timely and reliable service for consumers.
The Chief Minister also announced the establishment of a specialized control room (helpline: 011-23379836 / 8383824659) aimed at combating illegal activities like hoarding and black marketing.
In a bid to reinforce enforcement, the Delhi Police recently executed raids across 17 locations, while officials from the Food and Supplies Department inspected 76 gas agencies and storage facilities.
Reassuring the public, the Chief Minister confirmed that the LPG supply in Delhi is fully stable and under control.
She urged citizens to remain calm, dismiss rumors, and cooperate with the administration while relying on the established delivery system.
