Delhi Government Increases Migrant Labourers' LPG Cylinder Allocation to 1,368
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 7 (NationPress) Following directives from Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the government has significantly improved the accessibility of commercial LPG, increasing the allocation for migrant workers and students from 180 to 360 cylinders daily (19 kg equivalent), as stated by an official.
This update comes in light of a revised order that designates a total of 6,480 cylinders (19kg equivalent) across various sectors, with primary focus on essential services including health facilities, government institutions, hotels, restaurants, and food processing establishments, all prioritized on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have been mandated to strictly adhere to the overall daily limit of 6,480 cylinders, redistributing any surplus from one category to others while keeping the Department informed.
“Our commitment to equitable distribution is unwavering; there is no space for misinformation. Statewide inspections are in progress, and anyone caught hoarding or engaging in black marketing will face immediate legal repercussions,” emphasized Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Minister for Food Supplies.
The Department of Food & Supplies has provided operational guidelines to enhance the efficiency of LPG distribution. OMCs are now permitted to allocate resources flexibly across categories, as long as valid demands are met first, with any excess being reallocated and reported to the Department.
Sirsa noted that for migrant workers, 5kg Free Trade LPG (FTL) cylinders are being distributed through authorized channels, incorporating strong safeguards: mandatory Aadhaar verification, a central beneficiary database maintained by the OMCs to prevent duplication and misuse, and a mandatory 7-day minimum gap between allocations to the same person.
Priority sectors for allocation include educational and health institutions (225 cylinders), government institutions, PSUs, subsidized community kitchens, and industrial canteens (225 cylinders), along with hotels, restaurants, and food processing units (3,375 cylinders), caterers and banquet services (225 cylinders), labor-intensive industries such as automobile, textiles, dye, chemicals, plastics, glass, power, and pharmaceuticals (1,800 cylinders), as well as sports facilities and stadiums (270 cylinders).
“With the support of PM Narendra Modi and CM Gupta’s oversight, and the implementation of these rigorous safeguards, any rumors regarding supply unavailability are unfounded. Migrant workers can easily access supplies using Aadhaar. We advise booking LPG exclusively through authorized OMCs, considering a switch to PNG where feasible, and promptly reporting any issues,” Sirsa added, advocating for PNG applications for greater reliability.
The public is assured of a constant supply; daily coordination among OMCs ensures real-time monitoring. Vulnerable groups continue to access 5kg cylinders without interruption.
