Delhi L-G Criticizes Kejriwal for Disrespecting Ambedkar by Labeling Atishi as ‘Temporary CM’

New Delhi, Dec 30 (NationPress) Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena criticized former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for his comments referring to Atishi as a “temporary CM”, deeming it a disrespect to Baba Saheb Ambedkar.

He condemned the “baseless statements” made by the AAP leader in Atishi's presence, aiming to depict her unfavorably or as an inept leader.

In a letter written in Hindi, L-G Saxena commended CM Atishi for effectively managing the Chief Minister's Office, contrasting her efforts with Kejriwal’s track record of “never signing a file”. He expressed his disapproval, stating, “I found it very objectionable and hurt when your predecessor Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal publicly declared you as a temporary caretaker Chief Minister in the media. This was not only an insult to you but also to the President of India and to me as her representative.”

The L-G pointed out that Kejriwal's public definition of a temporary or caretaker Chief Minister lacks any constitutional basis and reflects a reprehensible disregard for the democratic values established by the Constitution, which was drafted by Baba Saheb Ambedkar.

His correspondence with CM Atishi comes just ahead of the Assembly elections scheduled for February, emphasizing the perceived rifts within the ruling AAP where Kejriwal has reportedly shown little regard for his colleagues.

In his letter, L-G Saxena also expressed sympathy towards CM Atishi, acknowledging the confusion and embarrassment she faced after two departments of the Delhi Government issued public notices warning citizens about registrations by the former Chief Minister for non-existent initiatives – the Mahila Samman Yojana and the Sanjeevani health scheme for the elderly.

He remarked, “This is an unprecedented development and must have been unsettling for you.”

L-G Saxena further noted that Kejriwal's unauthorized announcements regarding schemes for senior citizens and women have tarnished the dignity associated with the Chief Minister's role and the Council of Ministers.

Additionally, he referred to Kejriwal's assertion that the Transport Department and other investigative agencies were looking into CM Atishi's activities with the intent of incarcerating her, stating, “Such baseless statements by Kejriwal indicate that you were unaware of the activities of the departments working under you.”

Despite having praised CM Atishi on several occasions, the L-G had denied her the opportunity to hoist the national flag at an official event on Independence Day, even though her name was recommended by the jailed CM Kejriwal. She was sworn in as Kejriwal’s successor in September.
