New Delhi, Sep 4 (NationPress) The Delhi Industries Minister, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, has officially initiated the feasibility study for Delhi’s inaugural Smart Hub for Accelerated Knowledge and Technological Innovation – Special Industrial Zone (Shakti-SIZ), according to a government announcement made on Thursday.
This groundbreaking initiative is a result of the winning proposal in the Ease of Doing Business category at Ideathon 2025, showcased by the student team IndustHERial Minds from Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women.
“By advancing this concept, the Delhi Government reaffirms its commitment to transforming innovative ideas into tangible solutions, placing young talent at the forefront of decision-making,” stated Sirsa.
“We promised that the winners of Ideathon would see their ideas come to fruition, and Shakti-SIZ stands as proof of our dedication. This collaboration between the government and youth can construct a promising future for Delhi’s economy,” he added.
The Minister has sanctioned the feasibility study, directing the student team to collaborate closely with DSIIDC and the Department of Industries to establish a robust project plan.
Upon review and approval, a formal MoU will facilitate the development of this cutting-edge industrial zone. An area spanning 145 acres in Rani Khera is currently under consideration as the prime site for this innovative hub, as stated in a recent announcement.
Highlighting the unique attributes of Shakti-SIZ, Sirsa remarked: “Conventional SEZs primarily emphasize tax incentives, but Shakti-SIZ aims to create a comprehensive ecosystem that eliminates all barriers to business operations. It provides shared R&D labs for novel ideas, green utilities to minimize emissions and alleviate traffic, and AI tools for swift compliance and approvals — all designed to support the rapid growth and global competitiveness of MSMEs.
The Shakti-SIZ model prioritizes sustainability and empowerment through an integrated framework.
The initiative will focus on contemporary infrastructure, featuring green-certified factories, utility tunnels, zero-discharge systems, and co-working spaces.
The SIZ model will advocate for digital governance, utilizing a single-window online portal equipped with real-time tracking, AI compliance assistance, automated tax services, and transparent dashboards.
Additionally, business support will be available through credit desks linked to banks and SIDBI, shared legal and advisory services, export facilitation, and expedited dispute resolution.
Sirsa asserted, “Shakti-SIZ is Delhi’s solution to longstanding challenges — it’s an innovative, tech-driven zone that generates jobs, reduces costs for businesses, and enhances our city's environmental health by actively addressing congestion and pollution. This aligns with PM Modi’s vision of a self-sufficient India and will position Delhi as a national frontrunner in industrial advancement.”
The Industries Department indicated that this strategy will transform DSIIDC into a revenue-generating entity while bolstering entrepreneurs and establishing a benchmark for innovation throughout India.
