New Delhi, March 24 (NationPress) On Tuesday, the Delhi Police apprehended a notorious criminal during an early morning raid in the IP Estate locality of the capital, as reported by officials. The suspect suffered a gunshot wound and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital.

Authorities indicated that a unit from the Special Staff of the Central District executed the operation, successfully detaining the individual who had been wanted for serious offenses including murder and robbery, after a brief but fierce exchange of gunfire.

“During the encounter, both parties exchanged multiple rounds of fire, leading to the criminal being injured in the leg. This incident unfolded in the IP Estate vicinity,” police officials confirmed.

The suspect has been identified as Ajay Kalia, a fugitive linked to numerous criminal activities. According to police reports, both the accused and law enforcement exchanged fire before he was subdued.

Officials also noted that an Inspector from the Special Staff narrowly avoided injury when a bullet struck his bulletproof vest, leaving him unharmed.

“The Delhi Police received intelligence suggesting that a wanted fugitive would be in the area; acting on this information, the Special Staff set a trap to apprehend him,” the officials stated.

In a related development, on Sunday, the Crime Branch of the Delhi Police announced the arrest of a wanted sharpshooter and an alleged arms dealer associated with the Kapil Sangwan gang, also known as the Nandu Gang.

A team from the Crime Branch arrested Sumit Punia, a 25-year-old from Mahendergarh district in Haryana, who was found in possession of a sophisticated country-made pistol and five live cartridges at the time of his arrest.

Law enforcement has registered a case regarding this incident, and further interrogation revealed that the suspect had been evading capture in connection with a previous encounter case.

Additional investigation into his background and ongoing questioning revealed that Punia hails from a village neighboring that of gangster Kapil Sangwan and had known him since childhood, during which they reportedly played kabaddi together.
