Bengaluru, July 18 (NationPress) Digi Yatra has achieved a remarkable milestone by surpassing 15 million downloads of its application, highlighting its potential to transform the airport experience for millions of travelers through biometric-enabled, contactless journeys, as announced on Friday.
With increasing adoption rates, Digi Yatra, which operates as a self-sovereign identity (SSI) ecosystem that employs facial recognition technology, is reshaping the future of air travel. It ensures a privacy-first, efficient, and seamless experience for passengers navigating Indian airports, as stated by the Digi Yatra Foundation.
Since its launch in December 2022, the platform has facilitated over 60 million frictionless journeys, skillfully integrating advanced facial authentication at 24 airports across the nation.
With an average of 30,000 app downloads daily and a projection of 16.5 million downloads by August 2025, Digi Yatra is setting new benchmarks in digital travel innovation, establishing itself as a trusted partner for millions.
By 2028, the goal is to cater to nearly 80 percent of domestic air travelers in India, up from the current 30-35 percent. The platform is also exploring collaborations with airlines and online travel agencies to streamline the sharing of boarding passes.
“Achieving the 15 million user milestone reaffirms the growing confidence in Digi Yatra’s vision to provide a seamless, secure, and future-ready travel experience. In 2024, initiatives like the ‘d-KYC’ campaign and expansion to Tier-II airports helped us reach a broader audience,” stated Suresh Khadakbhavi, CEO of the Digi Yatra Foundation.
Looking ahead, our focus is on expanding our reach, enhancing user features, and establishing new global standards in passenger identity management, he added.
Digi Yatra plans to broaden its presence by introducing its biometric system at four additional airports—Chandigarh, Thiruvananthapuram, Mangaluru, and Srinagar—in the coming months.
The platform is also set to support all 22 official Indian languages, allowing passengers to navigate airport procedures in their preferred language.
The forthcoming ‘Digi Yatra 2.0’, currently undergoing testing, will further improve functionality and extend international travel support, pending coordination with regulatory authorities.
Through a strategic partnership with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) under the One-ID X Digi Yatra framework, the platform is aligning with global standards to facilitate smoother international travel.
