Foundation Laid for Central Detective Training Institute in Tripura to Enhance Regional Security

Agartala, Dec 22 (NationPress) Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday laid the foundation stone of the Central Detective Training Institute (CDTI) in Tripura to strengthen security in the northeastern region and neighboring countries, and to establish high standards in policing.
The CDTI will be built in Agartala with an investment of Rs 120 crore under the Bureau of Police Research and Development, part of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
During a ceremony at Kulai RF Village Ground in Dhalai District, the Home Minister also virtually inaugurated and laid the foundation for 13 development projects totaling Rs 668.39 crore. The CDTI stands out as one of these initiatives.
An official indicated that the primary goal of this significant effort to create the CDTI is to enhance security across the eight northeastern states and their neighboring countries, in addition to promoting high standards in regional policing.
“At the 69th plenary session of the North Eastern Council (NEC) held in Shillong, a proposal was made to establish an academic research center in partnership with educational institutions to address the unique security challenges of the northeastern region,” the official stated.
Furthermore, the Tripura government has earmarked 9.57 acres of land in the Jirania sub-division of West Tripura district for the establishment of the CDTI. A digital survey of the designated land has already been completed.
The MHA has granted approval for Rs 120 crore to develop the infrastructure of the CDTI.
Once operational, the CDTI in Agartala is expected to train over 6,000 personnel annually from the northeastern states and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs). The institute will feature state-of-the-art amenities, including advanced classrooms, simulation labs, IT data centers, and practical training areas, aimed at equipping police personnel with modern skills.
According to the official, the proposed institute will offer high-level training and research capabilities on internal and national security matters affecting the eight northeastern states: Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura.
“The institute will also house a dedicated academic research center that, in collaboration with educational institutions, will investigate crucial security issues such as counter-terrorism strategies, border management, human trafficking, drug trafficking, illegal migration, and arms smuggling.”
The official emphasized that the establishment of the CDTI in Agartala would not only enhance the capabilities of police forces but also foster international cooperation to effectively tackle cross-border security challenges.
