New Delhi, Oct 25 (NationPress) Early on Saturday, an exchange of gunfire in the Nangloi area resulted in injuries to three criminals and a head constable, during a confrontation with the Delhi Police and a group of wanted offenders.
According to officials, this gang is notorious for attacking police teams and had been under close watch by the Outer District Police.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Sachin Sharma informed IANS, "Just two days prior, this same group was engaged in a hot pursuit where they fired upon the police. Although the officers returned fire, the suspects managed to escape at that moment."
On Saturday morning, the criminals reappeared in Nangloi, where police intercepted them. When challenged, the gang opened fire again, leading officers to return fire. In this exchange, three out of the four criminals were shot and later apprehended.
"All injured suspects have been transported to a nearby hospital for treatment," officials stated, noting that a head constable was also injured in the incident.
In a separate incident that same morning, another gun battle took place involving Kanishk Pahadia, a wanted criminal, in the Mehrauli area.
During this encounter, Pahadia was struck by a bullet, while two police officers were hit on their bulletproof vests, and one constable suffered an arm injury.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Ankit Chauhan confirmed to IANS, "The captured suspect is identified as 27-year-old Kanishk Pahadia, a resident of Madangir, Delhi. He has 13 prior criminal cases against him. He regularly posted images and videos showcasing firearms on social media. Police recovered two pistols, loaded magazines, and four empty cartridges from him."
Authorities reported that Pahadia acquired weapons from Uttar Pradesh and distributed them throughout Delhi-NCR.
He was allegedly in the Chhatarpur area late Friday night to negotiate a weapons deal when police intercepted him.
A case has been filed against him, and investigations are ongoing.
Officials stated that the encounter was initiated after the police received a tip-off regarding Pahadia's activities. Upon attempting to apprehend him, he fired back in an attempt to escape.
Police retaliated, ultimately overpowering him after he was shot. He was promptly taken to the hospital, where his condition is reported to be stable.
Senior officials confirmed that Pahadia has a significant criminal background and is wanted in numerous cases, including illegal arms trafficking.
"Further investigations are ongoing to track his network and the sources of his weapons," Chauhan added.
