Global Rights Organization Raises Alarm Over Hindu Persecution in Bangladesh

Agartala, Jan 3 (NationPress) The Global Bengali Hindu Coalition (GBHC), a rights organization based in Toronto, has on Friday expressed serious worries about the increasing persecution of Hindus in Bangladesh and urged global communities to take necessary actions to put an end to the injustices faced by minorities in the neighboring nation.
Representatives of the GBHC, Puspita Gupta and Susanta Das Gupta, indicated that religious minorities in Bangladesh have been enduring persecution and instability since the country's independence.
They pointed out the alarming demographic decline of Hindus in Bangladesh, which has fallen from 22 percent in 1951 to 7.95 percent in 2022, with predictions of further reductions by 2046.
Puspita Gupta cited a professor from Dhaka University, who warned that if the current rate of “exodus” persists, there may be no Hindus left in Bangladesh in 30 years.
While addressing the media in Agartala, GBHC members stressed the deteriorating conditions of minorities, citing concerning levels of attacks, displacement, and state-supported communal violence.
They accused the current government of fostering radical Islamist ideologies, endangering Hindus through systematic discrimination, false accusations, and the destruction of homes and businesses.
The organization claimed that Hindu women have been subjected to sexual violence, while government restrictions have obscured data on these violations.
They cautioned that unrestrained Islamic fundamentalism in Bangladesh represents a significant regional and global threat.
To tackle the crisis, the GBHC has called for the deployment of UN Peacekeeping forces in Bangladesh to safeguard minorities and to establish secure zones for the resettlement of displaced communities.
The group urged India and international leaders to take swift actions to protect persecuted minorities and combat extremist ideologies, aiming for a safer and more inclusive future for everyone.
Additionally, GBHC has called upon the United Nations (UN) and the Government of India to implement appropriate measures, including the deployment of UN Peacekeeping forces, to uphold human rights and protect Hindus, Buddhists, and other minorities in Bangladesh.
