These iconic revolutionaries, Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev Thapar, and Shivaram Rajguru, were executed on March 23, 1931, in Lahore jail, an event that further ignited the freedom struggle. This date is now commemorated as Shaheed Diwas.
In a message shared on X, PM Modi expressed, "Today, we pay tribute to the courageous sons of Bharat Mata, Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev. Their sacrifice for the nation is firmly embedded in our collective memory."
"At a young age, they exhibited remarkable bravery and an unwavering dedication to India's freedom. Defying the power of colonialism, they chose the path of sacrifice, placing the nation above their own lives. Their ideals of justice, patriotism, and fearless resistance continue to stir the spirits of numerous Indians," he remarked.
Moreover, he released a video message stating, "Even today, after many years, the tales of the sacrifices made by Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev resonate within the hearts of every Indian child. The legacies of these heroes encourage us all to strive for our nation."
As members of the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA), Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev sought to avenge the death of Lala Lajpat Rai by targeting British officer James Scott, leading to the Saunders shooting in 1928.
Following this, they threw bombs in the Central Assembly to demand independence, resulting in their arrest and death sentences.
Their bravery and steadfast commitment to liberating the nation from British rule transformed them into national heroes and symbols of patriotism and resistance.
Driven by socialist ideals, they believed that their ultimate sacrifice would spark a massive revolutionary movement against colonial oppression.
