New Delhi, Nov 14 (NationPress) The third installment of the yearly Indian Military Heritage Festival (IMHF) is set to commence in the capital today, showcasing the multifaceted initiatives and contributions of the Indian armed forces, as per an official announcement.

Hosted by the United Service Institution of India, this two-day event on November 14 and 15 will be inaugurated by Minister of State for Defence, Sanjay Seth.

With an emphasis on promoting dialogues about India’s military legacy and pertinent national security and geopolitical issues, the IMHF aims to be a hub for discussions among various stakeholders, including the three Services, government officials, diplomats, academia, think tanks, and the general public, stated the official.

The IMHF 2025 is poised to present attractions such as an exhibition featuring renowned military artworks by Lt Col Arul Raj (Retd) and the launch of notable publications like The Sukraniti: Statecraft and Warcraft by Col P.K. Gautam (Retd) and Honours & Awards of the Indian Armed Forces by Dr A.K. Mishra.

The event will also include panel discussions with prominent authors discussing India’s military history and heritage. Topics covered will include Operation Sindoor, The War India Forgot, Contested Partitions, Tussles over Tibet, BSF and Bangladesh, Udbhav, Taming the Waves, Military Biographies, and Technology and Strategy.

The previous edition of the Festival saw the launch of Project 'Shaurya Gatha', an initiative from the Department of Military Affairs and the USI of India aimed at preserving and promoting India’s military heritage through education and tourism.

During this two-day event, significant publications on military topics will be a highlight, with book releases including Because of This: A History of the Indo-Pak Air War December 1971 by Air Marshal Vikram Singh (Retd), Valour and Honour – a collaboration between the Indian Army and USI of India, and Silent Weapons, Deadly Secrets: Unveiling the Bioweapons Arms Race by Dr. Mrinmayee Bhushan, edited by Lt Gen Vinod Khandare (Retd), Principal Advisor MOD, among others.

In 2024, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) presented a photo exhibition that highlighted its contributions to Atmanirbhar Bharat through innovations in defense research.

“The involvement of NCC Cadets and students from various schools and universities across the Delhi NCR region has motivated the younger generation to explore careers within the armed forces. Informative stalls from the three Services will showcase their roles and the various opportunities available for aspiring youth,” the statement remarked.

The inaugural IMHF took place on October 21-22, 2023, at the Manekshaw Centre. “The program highlighted India’s military culture through performances by military bands from the three Services and various exhibits showcasing the diverse aspects and initiatives of the Indian armed forces,” the statement concluded.
