India Recorded an 8.4% Economic Growth Rate Under Vajpayee: Rajnath Singh

Lucknow, Dec 25 (NationPress) Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday paid floral tributes at the statue of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee at Lok Bhavan here during a special Good Governance Day celebration to commemorate his 100th birth anniversary and his unmatched contributions to India.

During his address, Rajnath Singh emphasized Vajpayee’s transformative leadership, which propelled India to a remarkable 8.4 percent growth rate during his administration -- a significant achievement in the nation's economic landscape. "Atal Ji’s governance was globally esteemed for its vision, inclusiveness, and foresight," he stated.

He praised Vajpayee’s policies and initiatives, highlighting flagship programs like the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana and the Antyodaya Yojana, which significantly improved rural infrastructure and supported marginalized communities. "Vajpayee’s leadership also established the groundwork for India’s telecom revolution, making mobile connectivity available to millions. Atal Ji didn’t just connect urban areas with highways; he also enhanced rural access with improved roads," the Union Minister remarked.

Rajnath Singh elaborated on Vajpayee's philosophy of good governance, portraying it as a system that ensures the fulfillment of citizens' needs, guarantees their safety, and amplifies their voices. He mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is furthering Vajpayee’s vision through various initiatives.

He also pointed out India’s ascent to the 50th position in the global Ease of Doing Business index, a feat attributed to the elimination of over 1,500 outdated laws under Prime Minister Modi’s administration.

He commended the success of the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) initiative, which has saved Rs 3.5 lakh crore by curbing leakages and ensuring funds reach beneficiaries directly.

Referring to comments made by former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, he remarked: "Previously, only 14 paise of every rupee reached the impoverished. Today, the Modi government has made sure that every rupee reaches its intended recipient."

He praised the governance of Uttar Pradesh under Chief Minister Adityanath, pointing out significant improvements in law and order and social welfare. He noted that the state now excels in providing housing for the underprivileged, with over 4 crore permanent homes constructed, 70 percent of which are registered in women’s names. He further highlighted that 4 crore individuals have been lifted out of poverty in the state, and under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, free medical treatment up to Rs 5 lakh is available to the disadvantaged.

"Uttar Pradesh has emerged as the top performer in executing this scheme," he stated.

"Atal Ji’s leadership, devoid of corruption allegations, set a standard for governance," Rajnath Singh remarked, asserting that the Modi government continues to follow the same path.
