Bengaluru, Feb 12 (NationPress) The Karnataka Police have taken into custody eight individuals on Wednesday for their involvement in an assault on a police station located in Mysuru city. These individuals are accused of stone pelting against the police station and the vehicle of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP).

The suspects have been named as Suhail (also known as Syed Suhail), Rahil Pasha, and Ayaan, all residents of Shatinagar in Mysuru; Ejaj and Syed Sadiq from Ghousianagar; and Sadiq Pasha (also referred to as Sadiq), Arbaz Sharif, and Shohaib Pasha from Rajiv Nagar in Mysuru.

The police have initiated a search for additional suspects. According to police sources, many of the accused have fled their homes upon realizing they were being pursued, leaving their mobile devices behind. The police are tracing their movements using tower locations and collecting further information about them.

Authorities indicated that they have pinpointed individuals who engaged in riots and stone pelting while demanding the surrender of the accused in this case. The police have also secured DVRs from over 10 CCTV cameras situated near the Udayagiri police station, which was attacked by the mob.

Furthermore, the Karnataka Police are on the lookout for a religious teacher who allegedly delivered a hate speech that incited the mob to target the police station in Mysuru due to a controversial social media post.

The Maulvi in question has been identified as Mufti Mushtaq Maqbooli, and the inflammatory post was related to the defeat of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the Delhi Assembly elections.

The police have obtained a video clip of Maqbooli, where he can be seen making highly inflammatory remarks, including calls for extreme violence.

Authorities have tracked approximately 50 to 60 individuals who participated in the violent acts, including stone pelting. The police stated that all of them would soon be detained for questioning, and legal actions would follow. The identification of these individuals was aided by CCTV footage.

Police sources reported that the majority of those involved in the stone pelting incidents were local residents. A special task force led by the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) has been established to investigate the incident.

Karnataka's Home Minister, G. Parameshwara, announced on Tuesday that directives have been issued to apprehend those who incited violence through stone pelting at the Udayagiri police station.

Deputy Chief Minister Shivakumar visited the site in Mysuru on Wednesday, affirming that wrongdoers would face consequences.

Previously, Karnataka Police had detained an individual linked to a contentious social media post that made communal remarks against a specific community while celebrating the AAP's defeat in the Delhi Assembly elections, which led to unrest in Mysuru.

The detained suspect, a resident of Kalyannagar in Mysuru, had posted disparaging comments about Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi, former Chief Ministers Akhilesh Yadav and Arvind Kejriwal, and made provocative communal remarks targeting a specific religious group. This post gained traction on social media on Monday evening.

By late Monday night, a group from the minority community gathered outside the Udayagiri police station, demanding action against the individual responsible for the post.

Despite police efforts to calm the crowd, including the involvement of religious leaders asking for restraint, the situation escalated, resulting in the mob throwing stones at the police station and assaulting the DCP's official vehicle.

They shouted slogans, and as the situation spiraled out of control, the police resorted to a lathi-charge and subsequently deployed tear gas.

Additional police units were summoned, and senior police officials, along with local political figures, reassured the crowd that action would be taken against the accused. Eventually, they managed to persuade the mob to disperse.

Although the police have regained control, tensions in the area remain high.
