How is Karnataka's Transport Department Helping Accident Victims with E-DAR Software?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, Feb 5 (NationPress) The Karnataka Transport Department has officially introduced the Central government’s E-DAR (Electronic Detailed Accident Report) software in the state on Thursday.
The unveiling ceremony took place at the Royal Senate Hall located in Palace Grounds, Bengaluru.
State Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy, Home Minister G. Parameshwara, and Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao were present at the event.
This software is designed to streamline the compensation process for families of accident victims, eliminating the need for them to navigate through various offices.
Once accident information is entered into the system by the State Transport Department, Police Department, Health Department, and Public Works Department, it will automatically be sent to the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal, as per the Transport Department's announcement.
According to the Transport Department, “Based on this data, compensation will be allocated to the families of individuals who have lost their lives in accidents, as well as to those who have sustained severe injuries like fractures.”
The event also showcased an exhibition featuring luxury vehicles, high-speed accident cars, and vintage car displays.
Participation from thousands of college students added to the program’s significance.
During the valedictory program for the 'e-DAR implementation and National Road Safety Month 2026', jointly organized by the state Transport Department and Police Department at Palace Grounds, Home Minister G. Parameshwara pointed out that around 4.70 lakh road accident cases are reported nationwide, with Karnataka accounting for approximately 43,000 cases. Numerous lives have been lost for various reasons.
He noted the alarming statistic of nearly 120 fatalities within just two months of the Mysuru–Bengaluru highway’s opening.
“Road safety has been neglected in the past. Inspections by department officials revealed numerous black spots. After informing the National Highways Authority of India, corrective measures were implemented, leading to a reduction in accidents. Prioritizing road safety during construction is essential,” he emphasized.
“With significant advancements in technology across all sectors, the e-DAR technology will greatly benefit countless people,” added Parameshwara.
“In Bengaluru, numerous accidents occur, resulting in loss of life. The death of a family’s primary income earner due to an accident leads to unimaginable hardship for the family. Hence, ensuring safety is crucial,” he stressed.
“Over 10,000 AI-enabled cameras have been installed at 500 junctions across the city. The entire city can be monitored from a command center, allowing for real-time observation of activities at every junction. Fines for traffic violations are being enforced, which has contributed to reducing accidents,” he explained.
“The main goal should be to protect motorists' lives and safeguard their families. Organizing a three-day road safety exhibition for school and college students is essential for enhancing their understanding of traffic rules and road safety,” he proposed.
Highlighting the necessity of increasing awareness regarding narcotics and drugs in the state, Parameshwara stated that drug awareness campaigns should be integrated into Road Transport Corporation buses statewide.
“The state government is committed to creating a drug-free Karnataka, and efforts must be made to educate students about the dangers and consequences of drug abuse,” he added.
Awareness initiatives should be conducted on all KSRTC buses throughout the state, emphasized Minister Parameshwara.
