New Delhi, Jan 16 (NationPress) A fierce social media exchange erupted between AAP National Convener Arvind Kejriwal and his BJP adversary for the New Delhi Assembly seat, Parvesh Verma, regarding alleged gift distribution to constituents and court-imposed restrictions on the former Chief Minister's activities upon receiving bail.

Verma took to the social media platform X to criticize AAP for misleading the electorate by presenting Kejriwal as their candidate for Chief Minister.

He outlined four conditions mandated by the court upon granting bail to Kejriwal in a money laundering case, stating, “Kejriwal will not be able to serve as Chief Minister again in this lifetime. So, who will be the Chief Ministerial face of the Aam Aadmi Party? Amanatullah Khan? Or Imran Hussain?”

Inquiring whether the controversial AAP member from Okhla, Amanatullah Khan, and Delhi Minister Imran Hussain would lead the party should they win, Verma emphasized that the court has ruled Kejriwal cannot access the Delhi Secretariat; otherwise, he would face imprisonment.

Detailing the court's restrictions that effectively bar Kejriwal from the CM position, Verma stated, “Accused Kejriwal cannot enter the CM office; if he does, he will be incarcerated. Accused Kejriwal cannot sign any government document; if he does, imprisonment awaits him. Accused Kejriwal cannot meet any officials; any such meeting will lead to jail.”

Previously, Kejriwal had targeted Verma over the alleged gift distribution, stating on X, “Poor Pravesh Verma is desperately trying to get disqualified, but the Election Commission refuses to comply.”

This was likely a reference to the Election Commission's favorable ruling for Verma concerning AAP’s complaint regarding gift distribution prior to his nomination.

“The entire nation witnessed this BJP leader giving away goods. All media captured it. It is quite disgraceful that the DEO/DM overlooked this. They cleared him in a matter of hours after our complaint,” he remarked in a past post.

Verma responded by accentuating Kejriwal’s alleged corruption and his tendency to maintain power by distributing freebies.

He declared, “Kejriwal is indeed correct in saying, 'Money comes from power and power comes from money. Engage in corruption and seize power by enticing people with freebies.' But Kejriwal ji, your strategy will no longer succeed. The informed citizens of Delhi are poised to put an end to your deceit and fabrications.”

The voting for the Delhi Assembly election is scheduled for February 5, with results to be announced on February 8.

While Kejriwal aims for his fourth consecutive election from the New Delhi seat since 2013, Verma, a two-time BJP MP and son of former Delhi Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma, is campaigning vigorously. The third significant contender for the seat is Congress nominee Sandeep Dikshit, son of former Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, who is striving to make it a competitive triangular contest.
