Maharashtra's CM Fadnavis Advocates Enhanced CCTV Security for Safer Cities
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, March 17 (NationPress) Maharashtra's Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has instructed the state administration to enhance the CCTV security framework for safer urban environments in the upcoming days.
This initiative is part of the government’s commitment to fostering safe and crime-free cities, ensuring a secure atmosphere for all residents, as highlighted by the Chief Minister.
He ordered the Information Technology (IT) Department, in cooperation with the Home and Urban Development departments, to establish a new corporation.
This organization will concentrate on the strategic utilization of CCTV systems, incorporating private CCTV data for criminal inquiries, and crafting an intelligence-driven CCTV setup.
The Chief Minister shared these directives during an IT Department review meeting at Vidhan Bhavan.
"The IT Department must finalize the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy, the CCTV-centric 'Mahanetra' Policy, along with the Maharashtra Unmanned System Policy. We need to develop systems that deliver AI-related services essential for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs)," stated Chief Minister Fadnavis.
Recognizing the importance of automation, he emphasized the integration of AI and modern technology in government operations where human interaction can be minimized.
"To support this, a new corporation called MUSIC (Maharashtra Unmanned System and Infrastructure Corporation) should be formed. This will facilitate the implementation of AI, drone technologies, and other innovations in tasks that can be executed without human involvement," he elaborated.
Chief Minister Fadnavis highlighted the current use of drone technology in the Agriculture Department, which has positively influenced human lives.
"Research in the drone sector is vital. We must prioritize drone manufacturing and software development while ensuring safeguards against the misuse of drones for harmful purposes. All these considerations should be incorporated into the new policy," he remarked.
"CCTV systems across cities should be integrated with Control and Command Centres. These centres should include experts and be outfitted with cutting-edge technology through private sector involvement," he advised.
He expressed confidence that by establishing this comprehensive ecosystem, Maharashtra would remain a global frontrunner in this domain.
The state has a wealth of data available on the Mahasarathi Portal that can be effectively leveraged for various initiatives.
The Chief Minister called for the formulation of a Mahasarathi Policy to optimize this data for the benefit of the public.
