Kolkata, Aug 18 (NationPress) It appears that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will not be joining Prime Minister Narendra Modi on stage during an official event set for August 22 on the northern outskirts of Kolkata.

The Prime Minister will begin his visit by arriving at Jessore Road Metro station via road from Kolkata Airport. There, he is expected to launch three new metro routes: Noapara to Jai Hind Airport Station, Ruby to Beliaghata, and Esplanade to Sealdah.

A formal invitation has already been sent from the Union Railways Ministry to the office of Chief Minister Banerjee, requesting her attendance at the inaugural ceremony.

According to a source within the state secretariat, it is highly likely that Chief Minister Banerjee will opt not to attend the event and share the stage with the Prime Minister due to previous experiences.

“In the past, Chief Minister Banerjee was present alongside Prime Minister Modi at a government event at Nazrul Manch. However, the conduct of BJP supporters and workers at that time was not commendable towards her,” the insider noted.

During that occasion, Chief Minister Banerjee reportedly expressed her displeasure openly on stage. Sources indicate that she will refrain from sharing the stage with the Prime Minister this time, especially as she is currently engaged in efforts to safeguard Bengal's identity.

On August 22, following his arrival at Jessore Road Metro station, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the metro service and then take the first train to the Jai Hind Airport Metro station.

Subsequently, he will return to Jessore Road station via metro and then travel by road to Dum Dum Central Jail Ground, where he will conduct various administrative and political meetings.

Point of View

The situation highlights the ongoing political rift between the state government and the central leadership. As the Chief Minister prioritizes her commitment to Bengal's identity, the absence from such a significant event may reflect deeper sentiments within the state's political landscape. It's essential to monitor how this impacts the relationship between West Bengal and the central government moving forward.
