President Droupadi Murmu on 14 August 2025, on the eve of India's 80th Independence Day, delivered a national address urging collective commitment toward the vision of 'Viksit Bharat@ 2047' — a developed India by the centenary of independence. The President highlighted a decade of rapid, inclusive economic growth achieved despite persistent global uncertainties.

Decade of Development and Cultural Pride

President Murmu said India has progressed at a fast pace over the last 10 years through the harmonisation of 'Vikas aur Virasat' — development and cultural heritage. She called on every citizen to commit to making India a global leader, underscoring that the nation's march toward a golden future is being steered by its youth, with 65 per cent of the population under 35 years of age.

The President praised the Union government's push on infrastructure development, noting that sustained investment has attracted foreign investors and generated employment. She also pointed to India's expanding trade footprint through free trade agreements with multiple nations.

Welfare Milestones and Financial Inclusion

Citing landmark social outcomes, President Murmu stated that more than 25 crore people have been lifted out of poverty. Under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana — described as the world's largest financial inclusion scheme — nearly 59 crore account holders have been connected to the formal banking system, of whom more than 32 crore are women.

The President highlighted the Union government's welfare programmes targeting women, youth, the poor, and farmers, and pointed to the women's reservation law as a step toward deepening women's participation in political life and strengthening democratic institutions.

Addressing the Paper Leak Concern

In a notable acknowledgement of a recent controversy, President Murmu directly referred to the paper leak episode, assuring the youth that the government is actively working to eliminate irregularities and ensure transparency in the examination system. The reassurance signals official recognition of the issue's impact on student trust in public recruitment and academic processes.

Honouring History, Championing Women's Achievement

The President recalled the trauma of Partition and paid tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel for his role in uniting more than 500 princely states into the Indian Union. She also celebrated the achievements of Indian women and girls, including their gold medal haul at the Commonwealth Games and their growing presence in elite roles such as fighter pilots.

President Murmu additionally stressed the importance of environment conservation, calling for the responsible stewardship of natural resources for future generations. Separately, she also extended warm greetings to the Parsi community on the occasion of Navroz, the Parsi New Year.
