Neighbor Detained for Embezzling Rs 1 Crore and 300 Gold Sovereigns

Kannur, Dec 2 (NationPress) The local authorities in Kannur detained an individual named Lijish on Monday after he confessed to stealing Rs 1 crore in cash and 300 sovereigns of gold from his neighbor.

Lijish resides next to Ashraf, a well-known rice wholesale merchant in Valapattanam, located nearby.

Two weeks ago, upon returning from a brief family trip, Ashraf was taken aback to discover that thieves had stolen Rs 1 crore in cash and 300 gold sovereigns that were kept in his residence.

The police quickly responded and initiated a manhunt for this significant theft. Lijish acted as if nothing had occurred.

“We had summoned him to provide a statement since he was Ashraf's neighbor. He came, gave his statement, and left. However, after a few days, the visuals raised our suspicions, and further investigations led us to his residence where the cash and gold were recovered,” explained an officer from the Valapattanam police station.

“The police successfully retrieved Rs 1 crore and 267 sovereigns of gold from a locker under his bed,” the official stated.

Lijish’s fingerprint played a crucial role in confirming his involvement in the crime, as it matched a fingerprint obtained from another residence in the district that he had robbed the previous year.

The police also obtained the same fingerprint from Ashraf’s house, and upon interrogation, Lijish admitted to both robberies.

The authorities noted that Lijish, a welder by trade, utilized his tools to execute the burglary at Ashraf’s residence, which was conducted over a span of two days.

On Sunday, the police apprehended Lijish, and during in-depth questioning, he confessed to the crime.

As news of Lijish's arrest spread, a large crowd gathered at the Valapattanam police station.

“We are all from the area, and we are struggling to accept that Lijish was involved in this,” remarked several locals who had come to the station.
