Guwahati, Feb 1 (NationPress) The Assam government has decided to establish a new department to promote startup businesses in the state, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Friday.
The decision was made during a Cabinet meeting in Dispur.
Sarma stated: “To oversee the growth of startups in Assam and offer policy, funding, and mentorship support, the Cabinet has approved the formation of a new administrative unit -- Department of Innovation, Incubation and Startup.
To enhance business opportunities in the state, a major investor summit titled Advantage Assam is scheduled to take place in Guwahati this February.
Earlier, Sarma mentioned that this summit aims to attract increased investments to the state.
The Chief Minister emphasized that more government jobs and entrepreneurial support will be extended to the citizens of Assam.
The event is set for February 25 and 26 and will feature the traditional Jhumur dance of the tea tribe clans.
“This summit will serve as a platform to present Assam's rich culture to a global audience while drawing in investors,” he expressed.
A remarkable Jhumur dance performance, showcasing over 7,500 dancers and artists, will be a highlight of the event.
The Chief Minister assured that meticulous execution will be backed by master training workshops, constituency-level sessions, district-level performances, and final rehearsals in Guwahati.
He noted that the aim of Advantage Assam, which is the second edition of the international investor summit since its inception in 2018, is to foster infrastructure development and investment in the state.
The CM has made it clear that Assam holds significant investment potential, and this upcoming summit could be a transformative event for the entire northeastern region.
He has already visited two countries -- South Korea and Japan to showcase Assam’s capabilities as a potential investment hub. Sarma has invited leading industry players from South Korea and Japan to invest in Assam.
Additionally, the Cabinet has approved the Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan to support eligible Self Help Group (SHG) members in urban areas in pursuing micro entrepreneurship, with guidelines for implementation also sanctioned.
This scheme will provide a Seed Fund of 10,000 to qualified members.
