Bhubaneswar, Jan 24 (NationPress) In a groundbreaking initiative, Odisha Police will raise the national flag at 10 uninhabited islands along the Odisha coast in celebration of Republic Day on January 26.

In a press meeting on Friday, DGP Y.B. Khurania remarked: "This is the first time that the Odisha Police team will visit 10 uninhabited islands along the Odisha coast to unfurl the Tricolour on Republic Day."

Khurania further mentioned that this initiative is in accordance with the directives from the Prime Minister.

"Our team has already conducted a survey by visiting these 10 islands, and arrangements have been finalized to hoist the national flag there," he added.

During the same event, DGP Khurania discussed various facets concerning coastal security with Donny Michael, the Additional Director General of the Coast Guard for the Eastern Seaboard.

Post-meeting, Khurania informed the press that Odisha Police has devised several new strategies to enhance coastal security along the Odisha coastline.

"We plan to bolster coastal patrolling, increase aerial surveillance, and establish a command-and-control system," Khurania noted.

He also highlighted that both parties exchanged valuable insights related to coastal security. The Odisha DGP stated that discussions included how the Coast Guard can aid Odisha Police in this domain.

"It has been agreed that a board comprising officials from both the Coast Guard and Odisha Police will be formed. This board will survey all areas along the Odisha coast and propose the types of boats necessary for patrolling specific regions," Khurania explained.

According to the Odisha DGP, once the survey report is received, steps will be taken to equip the marine police stations with the recommended types of boats.

"We also addressed the shortage of personnel for coastal security. We have a plan to deploy retired Indian Navy and Coast Guard personnel at the marine police stations. This information was shared with the ADG of Coast Guard, and we anticipate that Coast Guard officials will be available for deployment at marine police stations post-retirement in the future,” the officer concluded.
