Omar Abdullah Mourns the Passing of Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh

Jammu, Dec 27 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, expressed his deep sorrow and grief on Thursday following the passing of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, who left this world at the age of 92.
In his message of condolence, the Chief Minister characterized Dr. Singh as a prominent statesman and the mastermind behind India's economic reforms in the early 1990s that significantly altered the nation's economic landscape.
Omar Abdullah remarked, "Dr. Singh’s visionary leadership and groundbreaking reforms established the groundwork for India’s economic boom, liberalizing markets and propelling the country to unprecedented levels of growth and development."
Reflecting on Dr. Singh's time as Prime Minister, the Chief Minister emphasized his unwavering commitment to lifting millions of Indians out of poverty through inclusive policies.
He also acknowledged Dr. Singh’s substantial contributions to Jammu and Kashmir.
"Dr. Manmohan Singh's profound concern for the progress of Jammu and Kashmir was evident throughout his time in office. His initiatives, such as enhancing rail connectivity to the Kashmir Valley, opened up new avenues for the region and its inhabitants," he stated.
The Chief Minister fondly recalled Dr. Singh’s strong interest in promoting peace and development within the state.
"His endeavors to connect with the people of Jammu and Kashmir, coupled with his steadfast support for dialogue and reconciliation, showcased his deep commitment to the welfare of the region," Omar Abdullah added.
"The humility, intellect, and dedication of Dr. Manmohan Singh to the nation will forever be cherished. His absence is an irreparable loss for the country,” the Chief Minister expressed, extending his heartfelt condolences to Dr. Singh’s family, friends, and admirers during this challenging time.
The Chief Minister prayed for eternal peace for the departed soul and strength for the grieving family to cope with this loss.
Dr. Singh, who held the position of Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014, was renowned for his transformative influence in navigating India’s economy through a significant period of liberalization.
He is survived by his wife, Gursharan Kaur, and their three daughters. Arrangements for the funeral are expected to be announced shortly, with the nation's leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, anticipated to pay their respects in honor of his legacy. Dr. Singh's passing signifies the conclusion of a remarkable era in Indian politics. His leadership and legacy are poised to continue inspiring future generations.
Earlier this year in April, Manmohan Singh retired from the Rajya Sabha, with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge commending his extensive parliamentary career.
Manmohan Singh rose to prominence as the Finance Minister under the government led by P.V. Narasimha Rao from 1991 to 1996, implementing extensive reforms that reshaped the economy.
