New Delhi, Jan 15 (NationPress) Prior to submitting his nomination for the Assembly elections, former Delhi BJP MP Parvesh Verma visited the Gauri Shankar temple in the national capital and conducted a roadshow, drawing a substantial crowd.

In the footage from the roadshow, enthusiastic supporters can be heard chanting slogans in favor of their leader, declaring, "Bhai Parvesh Sharma Zindabad".

Accompanied by his wife and two daughters, Verma was seen surrounded by supporters as he made his way to the District Magistrate's office to file his nomination for the New Delhi constituency.

BJP's New Delhi MP Bansuri Swaraj also joined in the roadshow.

Verma is expected to compete against AAP convenor and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the New Delhi Assembly constituency, with Congress' Sandeep Dikshit also in the race.

During his campaign efforts, Verma, the son of former Delhi Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma, accused Kejriwal of demolishing slums in the constituency, claiming that the slum clearances were directed by the AAP, which is currently in power in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi.

Verma, a Jat leader, also criticized Kejriwal regarding the reservation issue for the community, stating: "Kejriwal was accountable for the AAP government's inability to pass a resolution on Jat reservation in the Delhi Assembly and submit it to the Centre."

He asserted that Kejriwal was an anti-Dalit politician who merely displayed a poster of B.R. Ambedkar on his office wall for show to attract votes.

In response, Kejriwal accused Verma of receiving unlawful assistance from election officials and claimed that the BJP candidate had violated all restrictions set forth by the Model Code of Conduct.

Dismissing the allegations, Verma stated that Kejriwal and his party leaders were anxious about their potential defeat in the elections, prompting them to make baseless accusations.

The elections for the 70-member Delhi Assembly are scheduled for February 5, with counting on February 8.
