Patna, May 30 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a memorable encounter with IPL prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi and his parents at the Patna airport on Friday. The Prime Minister took the time to engage with the young cricketer and his family before departing from the location.
On a two-day visit to Bihar from Thursday to Friday, PM Modi inaugurated the new terminal building of Patna Airport on Thursday. He is set to launch and lay the foundation stone for numerous infrastructure and welfare projects totaling around Rs 48,500 crore on Friday.
In a post shared on his X account, PM Modi expressed, "At Patna airport, I had the pleasure of meeting the young cricketing sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi and his family. His cricketing talent is garnering admiration across the country! Wishing him all the best for his future endeavors."
Suryavanshi gained attention when he became the youngest centurion in the IPL at the tender age of 14. He was acquired by the Rajasthan Royals for Rs 1.1 crore in last year's auction. In just seven matches, the young talent has scored 252 runs, including a century and a half-century.
Due to his impressive performances, he has been selected for India's U19 squad for an upcoming tour to England from June 24 to July 23, which includes a 50-over warm-up match, a five-match Youth One-Day series, and two Multi-Day matches against England U19.
Previously, PM Modi praised Suryavanshi for his exceptional performance during the IPL 2025 season while inaugurating the Khelo India Youth Games earlier this month.
“We have all witnessed the remarkable performance of Bihar's son, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, in the IPL. Vaibhav has established a significant record at such a young age. His success is a result of hard work and playing matches at various levels. This reflects the saying 'jo jitna khelega, wo utna khilega' (whoever plays more, will shine more),” stated Modi during the declaration of the 2025 Khelo India Youth Games in Bihar on May 4.
Suryavanshi's journey is nothing short of extraordinary. At just 14 years old, he became the youngest player to participate in the Indian Premier League. In his third game, he stole the spotlight at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, becoming the youngest player to score a century in IPL history in just 35 balls against the Gujarat Titans, achieving the fastest century by an Indian, breaking Yusuf Pathan's previous record of 37 deliveries.
The young prodigy made his first-class debut for Bihar in January 2024 at merely 12 years and 284 days old. During his debut, he scored 71 runs off 42 balls against Baroda in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25, making him the youngest Indian to score a List-A fifty.
On the international stage, Suryavanshi set the record for the fastest youth Test century by an Indian, smashing a stunning 58-ball ton against Australia in Chennai. His contributions were crucial in India's journey to the ACC U19 Asia Cup final, where he scored two vital half-centuries.
