Chennai, March 30 (NationPress) The founder of Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), Dr. S. Ramadoss, has urged the Tamil Nadu government to establish distinct Tamil teacher positions in government primary and middle schools, akin to the current framework in high schools and higher secondary institutions.

In his statement, Dr. Ramadoss stressed the importance of ensuring that Tamil is taught as a mandatory subject in private schools as well.

He pointed out that even though the state has legally required the inclusion of Tamil education in private establishments, the enforcement of this law remains inadequate, leading to a lack of qualified Tamil teachers.

"At present, Tamil is a compulsory subject in government schools until Class 8, yet there are no dedicated Tamil teacher roles for these grades. This situation not only undermines the quality of Tamil education but also exacerbates unemployment among Tamil graduates," remarked Dr. Ramadoss, who is a notable figure in the Vanniyar community.

He mentioned that more than 50,000 graduates holding degrees in Tamil literature and B.Ed. qualifications are currently unemployed, often resorting to jobs that are unrelated to their area of expertise.

"Only individuals who have specialized in the language can teach Tamil effectively. Despite continuous appeals from Tamil scholars, successive governments have neglected this significant issue. This ongoing disregard is a serious injustice to the Tamil language," he added.

Although the PMK is part of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), it has consistently opposed the promotion of Hindi and the three-language policy proposed by the Union government, as well as the ruling DMK in the state.

PMK President Anbumani Ramadoss, the son of Dr. Ramadoss, has previously asserted that Tamil Nadu's two-language policy is both adequate and effective. He highlighted that the state has emerged as the second most economically developed state in the nation without adopting the three-language system.

A former Union Minister, he has earlier criticized the Centre for attempting to enforce the three-language policy, emphasizing that while the Centre may seek to convince Tamil Nadu, it cannot impose the policy against the will of the populace.
