Bhubaneswar, Dec 27 (NationPress) The visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Odisha has been postponed in light of the unfortunate demise of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.
"The sudden passing of Former PM Manmohan Singh has prompted the government to observe a period of seven days of national mourning. As a result, all government activities and celebrations have been called off, with the exception of condolence meetings. We have been informed by the party that Amit Shahji's visit has been canceled," stated Jajpur MP Rabindra Narayan Behera (BJP).
The Home Minister was initially set to arrive in Bhubaneswar on December 28 for a two-day visit.
During his visit, he was expected to participate in events related to ITBP, visit a university, and attend a party function at Kalinga Stadium before heading back to Delhi on the night of December 29.
It is important to note that Dr. Manmohan Singh, a distinguished economist and the architect of India’s economic reforms, passed away on Thursday at the age of 92.
He had been admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi due to a decline in his health.
Dr. Singh served as the Prime Minister of the country from 2004 to 2014 and was recognized for his pivotal role in guiding India's economy through a crucial phase of liberalization.
His time in office is frequently credited for launching significant economic reforms in 1991 while he was the finance minister, which played a vital role in modernizing India’s economy and integrating it into the global market.
In the wake of Dr. Singh's passing, heartfelt condolences have been received from both national and international figures.
The Chief Minister of Odisha, Mohan Charan Majhi, expressed in a message on Thursday that Dr. Singh, in his capacity as finance minister, provided a new trajectory for the nation’s economy.
"Owing to his liberal economic policies, India embarked on its journey to becoming a prominent economy on the global stage. As Prime Minister, he propelled the country’s growth across various sectors," remarked the Chief Minister of Odisha.
