Punjab Police Detain Two Individuals for Grenade Assault on Police Station

Chandigarh, Dec 28 (NationPress) The Special Operation Cell of Punjab Police in Amritsar has successfully dismantled a narco-terror module that is reportedly being controlled by individuals from abroad, as stated by Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav on Saturday.

The arrested individuals have been named as Gurjeet Singh from Amritsar and Baljit Singh from Tarn Taran. They are accused of executing a grenade attack on the police station located in Islamabad within the Amritsar district on December 17.

As of now, law enforcement officials have recovered 1.4 kg of heroin, one hand grenade, and two firearms. Further investigations are currently in progress to unveil the entire network behind this operation.

On the day the grenade attack occurred, DGP Yadav was present in Amritsar and instructed officers to implement stringent measures against the individuals responsible for this assault on the police station.

During a high-level meeting, the DGP stressed the importance of utilizing both technical and human intelligence methods to detect and capture those accountable for the attack.

He urged officers to recognize common trends and patterns in such heinous crimes and to approach investigations scientifically, employing all available technical and forensic resources to ensure the successful prosecution of the accused.

Additionally, he reviewed the law and order situation in border districts and assessed the progress made in prior attacks on police facilities.

“All past incidents involving attacks on police establishments, including the IED implants at the police station in Ajnala and the hand grenade assault at a police post in Asron in Nawanshahr, have been resolved, with the suspects apprehended,” he noted.

In another meeting, the DGP addressed all SPs, DSPs, and SHOs from the border districts, including Commissionerate Police Amritsar, Amritsar Rural, Batala, and Tarn Taran, to inform them about the police's top priorities.

He directed the officers to ramp up efforts against counter-terrorism, organized crime, drug trafficking, and street crime.
