Rohtas, March 24 (NationPress) A once-elusive aspiration of owning a pucca house for Indu Devi, a resident of Bihar's Rohtas, has now blossomed into a stunning reality, all thanks to the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).
Indu's deep appreciation is evident as she reflects on the moment when her dream of having a permanent residence materialized, significantly altering her family’s circumstances.
Previously, Indu lived in a crumbling mud hut with her husband, Vijay Kumar Singh, and their little child, enduring numerous hardships.
The mud structure was inadequate against severe weather, frequently allowing water to penetrate the walls, complicating daily life. However, with PMAY, a program designed to offer affordable housing to those in need, Indu’s situation dramatically improved.
In an interview with IANS, Indu expressed her feelings of relief and happiness: “I used to reside in a mud house, and now I have a pucca house. Thanks to the Prime Minister’s initiative, my dream of having a proper home has been realized. We struggled with water leaks, and it was unsafe, especially for my children. Now, my family and I enjoy comfort in our new concrete house.”
Indu was awarded a grant of Rs 2 lakh under PMAY, which enabled her to construct a durable home.
“Previously, living in a hut was a hassle, particularly during rainy seasons. It was deteriorating, and we had to cope with extremely poor conditions. But now, everything has changed. We can live with dignity,” she added.
The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, initiated on June 25, 2015, is an ambitious program aimed at achieving 'Housing for All' in urban regions by offering financial aid for home construction. With a goal to build 1.12 crore homes nationwide, the scheme has transformed the lives of numerous families, including Indu’s, by furnishing them with stable, safe, and comfortable housing.
