Sandeep Dikshit Criticizes Delhi Government for Unkept Promises

New Delhi, Dec 3 (NationPress) Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit expressed his discontent with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday for discussing the worsening law and order situation in Delhi at a national forum while neglecting to address it within the Delhi Assembly. He also criticized the Delhi government for its unfulfilled commitments, including the installation of CCTV cameras and the removal of marshals from buses.
Dikshit's remarks followed AAP MP Raghav Chadha's motion in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, which called for an urgent discussion regarding the escalating crime rates in the national Capital, noting that the Delhi Police operates under the jurisdiction of the Union Home Ministry.
In his motion, Chadha requested the Rajya Sabha to suspend the day's agenda to deliberate on the alarming law and order situation in Delhi, highlighting the rising crime rate as a pressing concern that required immediate attention from the legislative body.
In an interview with IANS, Sandeep Dikshit stated, "Before raising such issues in the Rajya Sabha, they must first be addressed in the Delhi Assembly."
"The AAP has held the ruling position, and it is their responsibility to engage with the Delhi Police and ensure appropriate actions within their jurisdiction," he remarked.
Dikshit pointed out that while crime rates in Delhi have surged significantly over recent years, it was clear that the AAP had also failed to uphold its commitments.
He brought attention to the stalled installation of CCTV cameras and insufficient street lighting as critical issues that remain unresolved. He further criticized the AAP's decision to remove marshals from buses after initially assuring their presence to enhance safety.
Additionally, Sandeep Dikshit reacted to the ongoing farmers' protests in Delhi.
"Three to four years ago, a significant farmers' movement took place, during which many discussions occurred between farmer leaders and the BJP government. The Prime Minister consistently urged his representatives to resolve all outstanding issues. The court also intervened to support the farmers, and the government initially made several announcements. However, after three to four years, it has become apparent that no substantial progress has been made for the farmers," he remarked.
Dikshit asserted that the Union government has failed to take any significant measures regarding Minimum Support Price (MSP) or market reforms.
"While the three contentious farm laws were ultimately repealed to alleviate the situation, the Union government has not taken any meaningful steps concerning MSP or market reforms. Sadly, it is now evident that this government does not serve the interests of anyone — including the poor and the laborers. We once believed this country belonged to farmers. The Congress has always supported the slogan 'Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan,' but today, it seems as if farmers have been completely overlooked," he concluded.
