Security Forces Uncover IED on Srinagar-Baramulla Highway in J&K

Srinagar, Dec 9 (NationPress) An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was uncovered by security personnel on the Srinagar-Baramulla Highway in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) on Monday, thus preventing a substantial catastrophe.

Officials reported that traffic was halted on the Srinagar-Baramulla Highway following the discovery of the IED in the Palhallan region on Monday morning.

“The prompt identification of the IED has averted a possible disaster on the highway. A bomb disposal unit is currently working to defuse the IED so that traffic can resume on this heavily utilized roadway,” officials stated.

Units from the 29 Rashtriya Rifles, Sashastra Seema Bal, and local police are actively involved in the operation, according to officials.

Terrorists have been employing remotely triggered or pressure-activated IEDs to target security force convoys and the Army on various roads and highways in J&K.

These explosive devices have also been used in attempts to attack VIP motorcades in the region.

To ensure the safe passage of security convoys and VIPs, as well as the general public, Road Opening Parties (ROPs) are deployed by security forces, equipped with electronic devices and sniffer dogs, to sanitize roads at dawn, ensuring the safety of regular traffic throughout the day.

Following the successful and participatory Lok Sabha and legislative Assembly elections in J&K this year, terrorists have executed several heinous attacks in the region.

Security forces believe that the terrorism orchestrators across the border have grown impatient due to the peaceful election conduct in J&K.

This has prompted terrorists to receive orders from their leaders to escalate attacks in order to instill fear among the local populace.

In response to this alarming strategy, J&K's Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, has instructed security forces to launch a vigorous anti-terror initiative aimed at dismantling the terror infrastructure, including terrorists, their Over Ground Workers (OGWs), and sympathizers within the Union Territory.
