Jodhpur, Jan 18 (NationPress) Union Culture and Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat on Saturday expressed criticism towards the Congress party, claiming it has made consistent attempts to weaken democratic institutions.

Pointing to the actions of Congress since independence, Shekhawat stated, "From the 1954 Kumbh to the Emergency and 2014, extensive documentation could be compiled on how the Congress endeavored to choke democracy and its foundational elements."

Upon his arrival in his native district, Shekhawat shared his thoughts on the Gandhi family's influence in Congress politics. He accused the leadership of hypocrisy, asserting, "The actions, character, and true nature of Congress resemble the teeth of an elephant. They have been revealed to both the nation and the globe."

In discussing the preparations for the Mahakumbh, Shekhawat commended the efforts made by the Uttar Pradesh government under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and the Central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He drew comparisons between these efforts and previous instances of mismanagement, notably the 2013 Kumbh stampede and the unpreparedness witnessed during the 1954 Kumbh.

Shekhawat condemned the negligence of the Nehru era, asserting that over 1,000 lives were lost due to inadequate arrangements.

He also underscored the current government’s dedication to preserving and honoring heritage, stating, "This time, the preparations for the Mahakumbh are significantly improved. The government has shown awareness and accountability towards such an important cultural and spiritual occasion."

When questioned about the INDIA Bloc's silence regarding the Kumbh, Shekhawat deemed them as "opportunistic".

"This is a coalition of individuals motivated by self-interest. Those who have previously overlooked or disrespected the Kumbh cannot possibly grasp its significance or the faith it embodies," he remarked.

He characterized the Mahakumbh as a distinctive festival that draws global interest.

"Crores of individuals from across the nation and beyond are participating with faith and curiosity. International guests are excited to see how such a monumental event can be orchestrated at a single location," he noted.

He also pointed out the outstanding arrangements, mentioning that over 5 crore people took a holy dip during Paush Purnima and Makar Sankranti, with attendance anticipated to increase on Mauni Amavasya.

The Union Minister concluded by asserting that the efforts of the current government make the Mahakumbh a global exemplar in event management and cultural conservation.
