Raisen, April 11 (NationPress) Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced on Saturday that the current agricultural fair taking place in Raisen aims to enact real transformation in farming by linking farmers directly with advancements in science, technology, and markets.
During his address at the ‘Unnat Krishi Mela’, which features both an exhibition and training programs for farmers, Chouhan highlighted that this event serves as a practical learning environment for participants.
He pointed out that this is not merely a gathering for speeches but rather a comprehensive learning experience where farmers will gain insights directly from scientists, experts, and successful farmers.
This three-day event, running from April 11 to 13, has drawn thousands of attendees, including farmers, scientists, agricultural start-ups, and experts nationwide.
With over 300 stalls on display, the fair showcases innovations in agriculture, horticulture, irrigation, mechanization, animal husbandry, and food processing.
In his opening remarks, Chouhan mentioned that more than 4,000 farmers from different regions of Madhya Pradesh have signed up for live demonstrations of cutting-edge farming technologies during the fair.
He also noted that technical sessions covering approximately 20 topics are being conducted to offer farmers practical training.
Chouhan stressed the importance of enhancing farmers’ income and advocated for moving beyond conventional farming methods.
He explained that with just one or two acres of land, farmers can potentially earn more than Rs 2 lakh annually by embracing integrated farming practices, which blend crops with horticulture, animal husbandry, beekeeping, and poultry.
Recognizing farmers as the backbone of the economy, he expressed that for him, a farmer is akin to a deity, and serving them is a form of worship. He reaffirmed that ensuring food security while enhancing farmers’ livelihoods is a top priority.
Chouhan also mentioned that the government is in the process of developing state-specific agricultural roadmaps. He pointed out that each state possesses unique soil types and conditions, necessitating tailored agricultural models.
He further stated that a roadmap has already been established for districts such as Raisen, Vidisha, Sehore, and Dewas, aimed at guiding farmers on appropriate crops and modern agricultural practices.
Chouhan assured that both the Central and state governments, under the leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, are committed to implementing these initiatives. He pledged that every effort will be made to effectuate genuine change on the ground.
To bolster market support, the minister revealed plans to establish 55 pulse mills across the state.
He stated that the government would purchase the complete yield of masoor, urad, and tur at the Minimum Support Price.
Chouhan also underscored the significance of technology and value addition, explaining that tools like the Mrida/eFARM app enable farmers to evaluate soil health and reduce expenses.
He concluded by asserting that connecting with food processing industries will further enhance farmers’ earnings.
